The beauty of life is that it ebbs and flows. We make meaning out of our lived experiences and these experiences inform how we understand the world around us. For those who have been harmed substantially, the world may shine a little less bright. Memories of trauma may have lasting effects on one’s mental wellbeing and hinder the ability to cope with stress, form positive relationships, and face challenges that lie ahead. There may even be a sense of hopelessness in terms of healing from the experience.

If we can help plant a seed of hope that grows into a sense of empowerment, then the possibility of restoring vibrancy back into the lives of survivors becomes more real.

our work

Hiwa offers individual therapy services to a limited number of clients living in the Washington, DC area. It is our mission to provide holistic care to survivors of violence. This is achieved through evidence-based interventions where acceptance, compassion, and empathy are cornerstones of the therapeutic process.

Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.”

Let’s fight the battle together.
