Hiwa offers individual therapy services to a limited number of survivors in the Washington, DC area. Our speciality is working with those who have experienced violence.

Therapy is provided through a trauma-informed lens; interventions from various theoretical frameworks like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Practices, and Narrative Therapy are integrated to support the client. Sessions are currently held virtually through a HIPAA-compliant website.

examples of therapy goals:

  • Reduce the negative impact that trauma has had on various aspects of life;

  • Decrease attribution of blame to self as having caused or having responsibility for the abuse/assault;

  • Develop and implement effective coping skills to improve functioning and participate constructively in relationships;

  • Develop healthy cognitive patterns and beliefs that will lead to increased hopefulness and self-esteem.
